Lee Wells
Math Geek

A native of Virginia Beach, VA, Lee currently lives in “them thar hills” of East Tennessee. Born to a family of teachers, you could say teaching is literally “in his blood,” and he loves it. He has a B.S. in Mathematics, a B.A. in French, a M.A.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, and 20 years of experience as a public school Math teacher.

A self-proclaimed hater of the “memorize-and-regurgitate-on-the-test” game most students learn to play in Math, Lee specializes in helping students understand, rather than simply memorize, mathematics. His teaching motto is “If you don’t know why, why know?” “Understanding is the key to long-term success in mathematics. It is the foundation of critical thinking and problem solving. Whether in the role of a teacher or a tutor, I think of myself more as a “thinking coach” than one who imparts knowledge. My desire for all students is that they become independent, critical thinkers and problem solvers, not only in math, but in all areas of life.”
